Temple & Webster names the Homewares Trends we can’t stop Buying

I love reading about trends. I love it when forecasters predict what’s coming up, I love seeing them hit stores and I love seeing how people interpret them in their homes.

It’s the latter category that often intrigues me most. It’s all very good and well for a forecaster to tell us that a Nordic theme is on the way, for example, but it doesn’t always mean we want to adopt the look.

The Pantone colour of the year, Marsala, is a perfect example of when consumers politely decline to get on board. Then there’s the indoor plant trend (more on that here), which we’re still going bananas over.

I had to turn to the market leader in style, decor and all things lovely for the home – Temple & Webster – to find out what the current trends were that we as consumers can’t stop purchasing.

Who better to give us the lowdown than T&W’s buyer Sophie Kelman? She’s been with the team for 3.5 years now and before joining she worked as a buyer for David Jones.

“My love for homewares is what drew me to T&W,” Sophie tells me. “Seeing our vision come to life and building something from the ground up has been truly inspiring and rewarding. It has been an incredible journey”.

Sophie shares with us below the decor looks Temple & Webster customers are digging right now.

African Tribal

Whether you live by the coast or you’re in rural lands, this trend embraces beautiful natural hues, raw textures and intriguing prints that deliver an organic, earthy and modern home. The tribal look is timeless and practical, offering the ultimate relaxing surroundings.

Shibori

This Japanese technique refers to the variety of ways in which textiles can be embellished by shaping and securing fabric before dyeing. Shibori can lead to a huge variety of different patterns. A chic version of tye-dye, this style is one that’s sure to bring your interior smack bang into the present.

Minimalism

This carefully curated and understated style is characterised by simplicity and functionality. By utilising clean lines, neutral colours and natural elements, you can create a home with a casual and comfortable atmosphere. Mixing elements such as marble and copper will still be trending for spring.

Bonus Insider Info

Sophie Kelman - Temple and Webster BuyerSophie’s favourite trend: “Living by the beach, I always want the ocean to be my hero at home, so I purchase key statement pieces that are neutral in colour and will never date, and then introduce pops of colour through flowers and plants. I also adore African inspired elements and prints sourced from ethical suppliers who support local communities. If I had to name my style it would be Tribal Luxe”.

Trends we’re moving away from: “There has been a shift from the Hollywood glam styling of mirrored accents and furnishings. Consumers are trending towards Nordic-inspired homewares and minimal simplicity to bring calm to their otherwise chaotic lifestyles”.

What she loves about Spring: “Bringing the outside in. Filling my home with oversized plants and fresh flowers to add that vibrant and fresh colour pop”.
