12 Velvet Dining Chair Options for your Dinner Table

Ever since the Kmart velvet dining chair hit the market, everyone’s been desperate to secure one. But there are some alternative to this budget buy you might want to consider.

Not that the Kmart one isn’t absolutely divine. I mean, for the price point it’s kinda hard to pass up, right? The one I talk of has recently hit stores in a gorgeous blue tone, as seen below. It’s almost indigo, actually. And truth be told, I’m losing my absolute mind over it.

A year or so before this one hit Kmart stores, they had released a lighter blue chair with blonde timber legs, which was even more gorgeous. I was so gutted I couldn’t get one in-store (they sold out so quickly). Even my Mum trawled several Kmarts in here areas to no avail. I didn’t even need velvet dining chairs in my life at the time. But you know how it is; sometimes it’s a gotta-have, even if not actually needed 😉

Anyway, if you haven’t been able to secure one of these bargain velvet beauties, fear not. I’m going to show you a range of skimp-meets-splurge options below that might cure your Kmart velvet dining chair cravings once and for all.

PS: The divine dining chairs above are from Early Settler and you can shop them here. Aren’t they stellar?

12 Options to Rival the Kmart Velvet Dining Chair

Above is the Kmart velvet dining chair in all its glory. There are still some available as it turns out, so go ahead and shop it here if you’re smitten.

This time around they added a gold leg which takes it in a luxe direction. And you know me, I’m all about pulling off luxe for less. In this recent post, I showed you tonnes of ways you could pull off a high-end look on a low-end budget. So jump over and give that post a read if you want some additional tips.

Velvet, of course, is one of the ways to inject some glam, and boy am I giving it to you below. I’ve included all of the price points and links to the suppliers below as well. So you can fall in love with your fave and purchase it with a few simple clicks.

Added Bonus: I also have a post on velvet armchairs & ottomans, so click here to check it out.

Also, keep in mind that a lot of the options below come in multiple colours. So if you see a shape you like, go take a look at it because it might come in another tone that takes your breath away!

Are Velvet Dining Chairs the Right Material for You?

If you have your heart set on owning velvet dining chairs, make sure you have a think about who’s in your home. Yes, I’m looking at you, kids and pets! I shouldn’t throw shade at our babies and fur kids though. Truth is, plenty of adults might spill their drinks on your chairs.

Here’s some quick-fire tips on cleaning velvet dining chairs if you do encounter a spill…

Getting Stains out of Velvet Dining Chairs

  1. Grab a paper towel and blot up all the excess liquid from the material
  2. Mix soap washing detergent and water together to create some bubbles
  3. Soak a cloth (a thicker one is better) in the water and blot the stain on the chair
  4. Once it’s been blotted, dry it quickly – a hair dryer will speed up the process

If the above doesn’t work, you’ll likely have to call in a pro dry cleaner to sort it out for you. But honestly (and I know this sounds wasteful), if you have the Kmart velvet dining chairs and one gets ruined, it’s not the end of the world. They’re so affordable you could just go buy another. If they’re in stock, of course 😉

Happy decorating – and drop me a comment below if you have any questions, or have found an amazing chair I need to know about!

  1. Omg not 5mins after my ‘Muriel’s Wedding’ comment to you on your ebook post I left there to go do a post regarding Kmarts Red Velvet pleated chair as all my local stores are out out out of them. I rang head office and they told me that I should of secured one earlier as they’re not getting them back. I’ve been crying ever since, I’ve gone through 2 boxes of Kleenex and I’m sitting under my doona on my bed. I don’t want to see anyone except I might want my ‘Marie Claire’ and I don’t know where you can get a ‘Pilates video’ so don’t ask!
Then like a golden sunrise & with trumpets sounding; and angels singing from somewhere above I find your post on velvet chairs. All my troubles melt away. I better not jump on my bed because I think I’ll break it! Thanks Chris
