I’m a firm believer in being inspired by the everyday. I think if you look hard enough, you can pretty much use anything in your everyday life (even the seemingly mundane) to inspire an interior design scheme.
These moments are what I call Everday Inspo – and you should use them to inspire room designs in your home!
Sometimes you have to train your eye to see the design potential in a random moment, which is why I’m starting this new segment on the blog called Everyday Inspo. Each week I’ll take an image and show you how to can use it to inspire and interior design moodboard.

THE EVERYDAY INSPO
This week I was looking back on the photos I took during research for my upcoming book, which is a collection of the best places to eat, drink and shop in Sydney.
The photo below is of a divine set of cakes I spotted at No 12 Trading in Kensington, which I visited for coffee and a treat earlier in the year.
I love the black, brown and yellow tones this shot has – which bode perfectly for a man cave that doesn’t offend any lady friends!
THE STYLISED INTERPRETATION
The shot below comes courtesy of H&M. I love the way it gives a generous nod to a more masculine look, but the room is softened with cushions in delicate, feminine patterns and textures. It makes for a really nice balance of elements, don’t you think?

I love the rug, tried to find the price, had no luck.
Yeah I don’t think they display prices on their website, sorry Charmaine!
