The Art Club Concept Story
I’ve never heard of homewares referred to as interior fashion before, but I like it. I guess it makes perfect sense for founder and director Ben Lawry to refer to ACC’s products in this way; he spent a decade in the world of fashion and it’s had an obvious effect on the brand’s aesthetic.
“I was ready to explore a new creative platform and outlet,” Ben tells me, when I ask why he moved from fashion to interiors after a decade in the clothing game. “Always having a love for art in the home, Art Club Concept was the perfect next step within the creative industry”.
It was a trip to Bali a few years ago that birthed the idea for Art Club Concept, and Ben explains that it’s definitely, for him, the brand’s most memorable moment.
“The idea of creating artwork that would impact peoples lives in a positive way is what brought ACC to life and is what fuels my passion each day! Art has always been more than a product to me; it’s the positive effect it plays in someone’s life consciously and sub-consciously”.
With that aim to positively impact people firmly in place, the Melbourne-based brand has moved well beyond art in terms of its product offering. Hit their stylish online home and you’ll also find find cushions and clocks, sitting amongst chic wall prints in an array of colours and styles.
The New Modern Muse Range
Art Club Concept’s new Modern Muse range is best described as graphic and somewhat minimal in its look and feel. But Ben adds that it’s also quite illustrative and has a sense of luxury to it.
“Our main focus for The Modern Muse was colour and illustrative design. Both of these elements played key roles in creating the collections aesthetic, which is true to our brand DNA,” he tells me. “For colours, we’ve worked with a range of beautiful tones this season including Blush Pink, Soft Icy Grey, Navy and of course, we can never go past Monochromatic!”.
The monochromatic moments in this range are by far my favourites. The Beautiful Chaos wall art and the Minimal Spirit cushions need to live in my home ASAP if not sooner. What I also love about the ACC range is that you can easily pair a cushion, artwork and clock together – so it makes decorating a pocket of your home a cinch.
I imagine that the launch of a new collection each season must be quite a thrilling journey to go on for the brand. Ben tells me that it’s always an incredibly high moment when the products are released and the public has a chance to respond to them, and it’s certainly been the case with the Modern Muse collection.
“We put so much love and work into each collection so we’re always really proud of the final outcome”.
What’s Next for Art Club Concept
The past year has been a rollercoaster ride for the brand, which is headed up by Ben and sees four other staff members run various aspects of the day-to-day activities. Ben tells me that one lesson he’s learnt with every opportunity or failure is to stay true to your vision, believe in yourself and stay focused.
“There are a few projects on the cards this year such as International expansion, exciting collaborations, plus introducing new products,” Ben tells me, when I ask what lies ahead for Art Club Concept. “We can’t wait to share it all with everyone later in the year!”.
