Inside Kyal and Kara’s Jaw-Dropping Home Renovation

After shots of the Kyal and Kara renovation finally hit my inbox this week and I’ve been beside myself ever since.

I’ve been following the journey of this build since it started last year, so it’s so nice to know that it’s all wrapped up and ready to share with you.

What I love here is seeing former Blockheads will skills and experience transform homes and make them amazing. Given that this season of House Rules is proving to be a little diabolical (as seen here), it’s so refreshing to see qualified ex-reality contestants going on to achieve such success.

And when you scroll through the shots of this home renovation below, I’m pretty certain you’ll agree that it’s quite the stunner. When can I move in?

The Kyal and Kara Renovation: from 70s to Sensational

The original 1970s three-bedroom home had good bones. But it was a rundown red monster in dire need of some love. Once Kyal and Kara got their hands on the property, it wasn’t long before it was transformed. And what a beauty it became. The result is a stunning six-bedroom, two-bathroom home – with garage extension and self-contained back studio to boot!

Located in Toowoon Bay, NSW, the former Blockheads used colours, textures and materials in the home that reflected the seaside surrounds. Gorgeous blue tones (from sky to navy to cobalt and beyond) were used throughout the home, paired with blonde timbers and splashes of white to really tap into a relaxed coastal vibe. On a sidenote, if you love the blue and blonde palette here, this post explores it further.

Have a scroll through the slideshow below to check out the Kyal and Kara renovation ‘after’ shots. The open-plan kitchen and dining zone is perhaps my fave part of the reno. I can easily imagine reading a book and sipping a wine on that built-in bench seat.

A Focus on Creating a Healthy Home

For this Kyal and Kara renovation, the duo teamed up with Gyprock. The idea here was to choose allergy-smart building materials like hypoallergenic plasterboard. They also chose floorboards over carpet, and ensured both windows and skylights were strategically placed to ensure ventilation.

“It was important for us to create a healthy environment for ourselves and our little man Ziya,” they explain. “Using allergy-smart building materials when renovating is an investment in health for every family. Moving forward with our next renovation at Long Jetty, we’ll continue to focus on using allergy-smart materials”.

The former Blockheads are soon to start their next project, and I personally cannot wait to follow the journey. If you want to keep up-to-date on what the dynamic duo are doing, click here to check out their online journal.

What are you loving most about this Kyal and Kara renovation? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

  1. love the calm serene atmosphere of the decor, but that stormy blue kitchen colour is fantastic, nice to see colour instead of black , grey and wood tones
