5 Timeless Design Combo’s That Rock!

Like wine and cheese or tea and cake, some things just belong together. Such is the case with the timeless design combo’s in today’s post. These five interior pairings just work – and are a great source of inspiration for some decorating in your own abode. Let’s take a look at these interior ‘it’ couples…

Design Combo - Pretty and Punk

Masculine + Feminine
Hard versus soft, pretty versus punk; whatever you call it, this timeless pairing is essentially mixing a combination of clean, simple lines with more elaborate and embellishes pieces. It’s the ying meeting the yang and it works perfectly because it creates visual harmony. The shot above is the perfect example of these two playing well together.

Design Combo - Gloss and Rustic

Rustic + Glossy
Industrial interior schemes are a dime a dozen these days, but it’s wise to execute this look properly so you don’t end up with a room that feels lifeless. The rustic, weathered pieces in an industrial look are balanced out perfectly by furniture and decor with a glossy finish. Colour plays another important part here; the more colourful the gloss, the more contrast you’ll end up with!

Design Combo - Black and Metallic

Black + Metallic
Bronze, gold and copper homewares are more prominent now than ever before. I find that black is the best colour to pair them with if you’re looking to bring out the best in your metallics. This colour combination keeps your scheme looking luxe. And if you ensure the black hues are matte, you’ll let the shiny, glossy characteristics of the metallic pieces come to life.

Design Combo -Charcoal and Yellow

Grey + Yellow
Colour lovers will revel in the pairing of deep greys and bright yellows. Using the grey as a backdrop allows whatever yellow hue you choose to really take centre stage. The best part about this colour combo is that it’s neither masculine nor feminine – and it works well in child’s bedroom, too – meaning it’s one of the most versatile colour combos around. I’m personally in love with it.

Design Combo - Stripes and Florals

Pattern on Pattern
There’s no better way to add interest to a space than with pattern, but there’s no need to feel restricted to just one type. Contrary to popular belief, you can mix florals and check, stripes and spots, and just about any other combination you can dream up. The thing to bear in mind when mixing pattern is to ensure there’s one colour that ties the look together. Above; black, grey and white do this.

I just recently changed my very much over due lounge room ‘terracotta’ to a deepish grey, against a oatmeal type lounge and some pop of colour yellow cushions its transformed the room!
