9 Design Must-Haves for Your Hamptons Style Bathroom

A Hamptons style bathroom has gotta be one of my fave looks of all time. For me, a bathroom should be bright and crisp, or dark and moody. There’s no in-between in my books.

What’s so great about today’s post – which is packed with Hamptons bathroom ideas – is that you’ll get two things. Loads of visual inspo from my friends at Metricon, first and foremost. These images are from one of their Vantage display homes (I’m gagging over the divine design!). Secondly, you’ll also walk away with all of the styling tips you need to recreate this look in your own home.

So let’s jump right into showing you how dreamy a Hamptons style bathroom can be. And what you need to rock the look at your place!

1. A Grey & White Colour Palette

I tend to start with colour when putting any room together, and a Hamptons style bathroom is no different. In this zone, we’re going for a contemporary Hamptons vibe. So it’s going to feel more modern than you might have seen in the past.

White and grey are your two dominant colours here. Notice how much grey covers the floor, one of the walls and the top of vanity. It’s really important to include a big chunk of grey because it makes the space feel warm and inviting.

Running alongside that, we have loads of white at play. It’s in the tub, the wall tiles, the cabinetry and the basin. And the roof, of course. This helps balance out the warmth of the grey, making the entire zone feel crisp and clean.

2. Pops of Black

The last element on the colour-front is black, but in very small doses. You’ll notice it in the handles and tapware. And a little moment in the wall lighting and window treatment too. Don’t go too overboard with the black though. It really is a less-is-more situation. Too much black and you’ll lose the Hamptons vibe in this bathroom. And we don’t want that!

3. High-Gloss Floor Tiles

These really set the scene for the bathroom, and keep the look luxe. Imagine if the tiles weren’t gloss? They’d make the bathroom feel too earthy and organic. That’s not the look we’re going for here, so go gloss with your floor tile.

Also, ensure you choose a large tile. By opting for a tile of this size, you let the more intricate wall tile become the star of the show. And what a star it is.

4. Marble Wall Tiles

These marble wall tiles, laid in a herringbone pattern, scream Hamptons style bathroom. But of course, they add in an additional scream: modern. You might not be used to seeing such a tile in a classic Hamptons home. But that’s the beauty of this bathroom; it’s Hamptons for a new generation.

Top tip here: ensure you apply this marble effect to a few walls only, or it will become too overpowering. Here it’s behind the vanity and in the shower, and it looks just right!

5. Floating Vanity

A Hamptons home is all about space, air and elegance. And you need to continue that vibe into the bathroom too. That’s why the vanity here is raised off the ground and attached to the wall.

By installing a floating vanity, you allow air to flow underneath; giving the illusion of more space and keeping the overall vibe of the bathroom much cleaner and lighter. Imagine how heavy it would look if the vanity went all the way to the floor?

6. Shaker Cabinetry

The shaker style cabinetry and those gorgeous vintage-inspired handles go a long way to tapping into the classic Hamptons style. While so many other elements in this space are contemporary, you do have to have some subtle nods to tradition. And these cabinets do it wonderfully.

“A sense of space is really important in a Hamptons style bathroom, so let all the design elements breathe and don’t over-style with decor”.

7. Free-Standing Tub

The simple design of the tub – in all its fluid white glory – really stands out against the grey tiles. Had you gone for a white tile on the floor, it would have blended into the backdrop too much. The colour contrast is what allows the bathtub to feel like a feature in the space. But it doesn’t detract from the marble tiles.

8. Plantation Shutters

A Hamptons style bathroom is all about light. Apart from looking to lighting on the roof and walls, you need to consider natural lighting too. A large window is important, and plantation shutters keep the vibe coastal but sophisticated. Keep the colour here a crisp white to match the bath and you’re set.

9. Matt Black Tapware

Nothing says ‘modern’ more than matt black tapware. It’s a really affordable way to bring your bathroom into the now, and they can be easily changed up should you tire of them in a few years time. Personally, I don’t think they’re going anyway. And in this bathroom, they feel so chic and sleek. A definite must-have!
