Win a Violet + Rose Scented Candle!

“I have a pretty simple rule of thumb when choosing candles scents,” says Jo Reid, the talented lady behind local brand Violet + Rose. “If it smells like bubble gum or air freshener, it’s no go!”. This is just one of the reasons why I adore these brand new scented candles. Here’s a few more that’ll have you equally smitten and eager to get your hands on one!

Violet and Rose Scented Candles

Jo started Violet + Rose in November 2011 and has steered clear of artificial and overpowering fragrances from the get-go.

“I like simple, natural scents and I try to make sure I have a variety in my evolving range,” she tells me. “Spices, florals, citrus, fruits, woods – and different ones for different seasons. Candles are definitely a seasonal item”.

I couldn’t agree more. I treat scented candles like I do colognes; there are definite summer and winter scents and each fragrance resonates with me on a personal level. It’s a philosophy Jo believes strongly in too, adding that many people underestimate the power of a good scent.

“Scent is as important as having decor that is visually pleasing or as listening to our favourite music,” Jo explains. “I think candles are an affordable treat… and candles make us happy. Who doesn’t want to feel happy?”.

Not only does she carefully consider the fragrances she uses, Jo hand pours the scented candles herself, paints each wooden bead and ties on every feather. This is the epitome of small-run, handmade homewares – and the design of the entire piece has been carefully crafted to tie in with current design trends.

“The trends I’ve picked up on are geometric, colour (indigo blue, mint green and flamingo pink), feathers, wood and metallics – incorporating all of these into the candle design. My original vintage range is poured into vintage jars, tins and trophies and is inspired by a more traditional, maybe even vintage-industrial style”.

I currently have the indigo candle burning on my desk as I type this post (cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger) and can assure you that it releases a fragrance so glorious I might actually try and eat the contents!

  1. I just moved to sydney and it’s my birthday next week in my new city and what a better gift to myself than a French pear candle. I love that it will make my house not only smell devine but will help with making my new apartment look amazing.

  2. Definitely Violet & Lime because I love the scent of violets and I think the lime would give a real freshness to the air.

  3. Thankyou for the opportunity. Like others I couldn’t actually decide. We are about to love into a new house with no garden, not even a tree. So the beautiful smell of any of these candles would be Devine

  4. The perfect Violet + Rose candle for me would have to be French Pear! Living in the tropics the sweet crisp scent of the pear is perfect for summer & I adore the chic colours of the feather & geometric wood beads!

    1. Violet and lime sounds like it would smell amazing. I am a big fan of lime in candles and the thought of it paired with violet sounds like perfection!
