Artificial Flowers and Plants are back in a Big Way

Thought that artificial flowers and plants were a thing of the past? Thought they belonged on Nanna’s old sideboard and nowhere else? Think again. Fake is fabulous once more – and some local brands are proving it.

I’m big enough to admit when I’m wrong. It’s rare, of course, but it happens.

Case in point was me declaring that pineapple homewares were over (in this old post), and then seeing a set of gold ones in a store shortly after that made my heart race. That situation left egg on my face and lust in my eyes, and it taught me that you can never really rule anything out when it comes to homewares.

Artificial flowers and plants were decor items I’d also written off as positively ghastly in years gone by. But something has changed of late. That something is quality.

Now, a whole host of local brands are producing fake florals and other greenery that I’m positive you’ll mistake for the real thing. So let’s explore some of them!

Artificial Flowers and Plants are Back

The main thing that sets the bad fakes apart from the good ones is pretty simple; the good ones look real.

In years gone by, there’s been a tonne of experimentation on the artificial flora front. From roses with ‘real’ thorns, to water droplet effects that only made the bouquet look completely unreal, it’s fair to say we’ve seen it all.

The materials used to produce artificial flowers and plants have improved tenfold, though, and it’s resulting in brands in the artificial space flourishing.

Where to Get the Best of them

Case in point is Sydney brand Secret Blooms flourishing. They create made-to-order bloom boxes you can get delivered to a loved one – and they pride themselves on being Australia’s premium faux flower design studio. I don’t doubt them.

The work of Rogue Home (directly above) is also worth admiring. They product artificial flowers and plants and sell locally through Albi.

They’re all about creating arrangements – including potted beauties – that replicate the real thing flawlessly. And if you cast your eyes on their arrangement above, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Below you’ll see the work of wholesale brand Emporium, who don’t sell direct to the public, but whose products you can also get through Albi.

Probably the best retail store to find artificial flowers and plants in locally is Freedom, pictured above. They’ve really upped their game of late and are pretty affordable.

Upon first glance, I know that artificial flowers per unit can seem a bit steep. But if you think of the longevity of the bouquet you’re buying it really does work out quite cost effective in the long-term.

Honestly, nothing will ever be better than the real thing, in my humble opinion, but for a low-maintenance option – these varieties are a great idea.

Artificial Vertical Gardens

The last brand I wanted to touch on was Garden Beet, above. They create mind-blowing fake vertical gardens – ideal for bars, cafes and retail spaces – but just as heavenly for your own home.

Not all of us are green thumbs, and a solution like the one above from Garden Beet is a great one. Not only does it look real, but it has such a strong visual presence that’ll definitely make it the talking point of your home.

I am dying to install one of these in my forever home, which is almost finished its build. I’d love to see one of these in-person, wouldn’t you?
