How to be Good in Bed (Stylistically, of Course!)

Forget everything you’ve been told about how to be good in bed.

What rookie casanovas don’t know is that being good in bed is all about what’s happening under the quilt cover. And I mean the products you choose to sleep on, of course (because I’m not equipped to help you in areas outside of decor!).

There are a few essentials you need to create a comfy and cosy cocoon to escape to at night. And I’m going to show you what they are in today’s post.

How to be Good in Bed: It’s all about Layering!

I recently styled a few bedrooms for my friends at Lorraine Lea and got to play with their bed layering system first-hand.

Four layers on your mattress sounds a bit excessive, I know. I thought the same. But after the shoot wrapped and I laid down on my mattress, everything changed.

It was as if Cupid himself had come down from the heavens with a hand-selected cloud, covered it in feathers, and rolled it out for me to curl up on.

My partner was equally impressed. Days later, I got my very own bed layering system gifted to me from Lorraine Lea and now sleep on it every night. Pure. Unadulterated. Bliss.

Lemme tell you why.

The Mattress Topper is the First Essential

I’ve seen those commercials on TV about dust mites and good Lord do they look like evil little creatures. The great thing about the Greenfirst Mattress Topper is that it repels dust mites. It does this using lemon, lavender and eucalyptus essential oil extracts, which sounds altogether glorious.

The mattress topper is also super soft. So if you need to add some cushiness to your mattress, this is the one.

On Top of that… the Quilted Protector

So the Mattress Topper is like the super hero who fights off all the evil dust mites (I don’t watch superhero movies so the analogy is weak, I realise). Think of the Quilted Protector as the softer sidekick who protects the bed.

The Quilted Protector is waterproof and comes with a polyurethane coating. It’s so plush and soft, and further adds to the ‘Cloud 9’ feeling I was telling you about above.

Then comes the Wool Underlay

I cannot tell you how glorious the Wool Underlay component is. Well, actually, I can. It’s awesome.

Because it’s made from wool, the Underlay keeps your body temperature regulated so you don’t freeze in winter or sweat like a pig in summer. It’s so textural to touch because it’s packed with 570gsm Australian wool pile.

Lastly, your Fitted Sheet

Like I said above, I know it sounds excessive to have four layers on your mattress before you get onto it. But seriously, it’s not. Not when you lay down and realise how soft and cosy your mattress has become. And not when you realise the dust-mite fighting qualities this system has.

I’ve had this system on the bed for a few months now (going from summer to autumn) and it’s been outstanding. I highly recommend it.

  1. You thought I’d forgotten about you didn’t you? I was just on a self discovery sabbatical. I’m so glad you have done this post. I have stalked the DJ’s merchandisers & disguised myself as a regular older lady customer & hid behind the menswear fixtures to spy on them creating ‘THE MOST’ beautiful of beautiful bedding displays. Upon observation I have evidence that they have used, not only a mattress topper of good quality but they also (and here’s the kicker) used a quilt to fill out the bed and this quilt they put UNDER yes you heard right, under the sheet. They then proceeded to layer up the top with the actual top sheet and….get this…..they put two quality quilts inside THE most beautiful extravagant ‘Yves Delorme’ bedding quilt cover. They turned that one down to leave nearly half the top of the bed showing the sheet for an expanse of area to cater to the copious amounts of pillows and cushions they were going to use. By this stage I was sweating in my ‘ol lady’ get-up. My twin set was yet to become my bin-set as I was sweltering under the heat of David Joneses lighting. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Back to the merchy.. She then added yet another quilt of contrasting pattern & colour to the very end of the bed folded and then threw a throw of finest cashmere with the most exquisite fringing I’ve ever seen. Then came 3 EUROPEAN pillows along the back then 2 extra large feather and down pillows (which would require you to take out a second mortgage to purchase) then some gorgeous cushions. I passed out. I fainted from the sheer beauty of this bed that this talented merchandiser had styled ever so perfectly. I awoke to the cold wet slaps of a security guard & the senior sales lady. But guess where they had placed me…??? No not on that perfectly coiffured bed, but on a wonky metal chair in the men’s fitting room. Sheeeeeeeet!!!!

    1. omg Penny you have exposed all of our style tricks in one swoop 😉 The merchandisers in stores (and in photoshoots) use all sorts of techniques and trickery to make products seem bigger, better, larger and more luscious. Most of the things they do you couldn’t actually live with day-to-day. Imagine sleeping on a quilt under a sheet lol?!

When I style rooms I do my best to keep it looking real-life. No trickery apart from some good lighting and an awesome photographer.

I hope you corrected the sales people and security guard; NO METAL CHAIRS! Just like in Mommy Dearest, but without the coat hangers.
