Trends are a lot like friends; they come into our lives at the exact moment we need them. Think of brass decor as that friend of yours you haven’t seen in years. She’s back and she’s looking better than ever. So let’s explore why she’s so amazing.
Brass Decor is King in 2016
I’m always a bit hesitant to declare a trend as over. I did that about two years ago with the popular-as-ever ceramic pineapple and then found so many varieties I ended up falling in love with. So, I won’t say that copper is over and that it’s being replaced by brass in 2016, but I will say that it’s nice for trends to evolve. Does that keep me sitting firmly on the fence? I think so 😉
Brass decor is back with a vengeance this year, though I’m sure that many people would say that it never went away. You might be right, of course, but there’s no denying that we’re seeing more brass decor being released in stores, so it’s an obvious reflection of the fact that it’s a trending metallic at the moment in the interiors landscape.
Late last year, in this trends post with the stylists at Inside Out magazine, marker editor Joseph Gardner told me, “Copper is a trend metal that we have seen come and go over the years, but we are definitely favouring the classic appeal of brass over copper”. And he’s right! Classic is a great way to describe this metallic – and boy does it look good when used across so many pockets of the home.
Some of my favourite places to apply brass is in tapware and other fixtures. Brass decor is sublime – as I’ll show you some stunning examples below – but good good Lord is it at its best when applied in the kitchen or bathroom.
I’m also extremely fond of the versatility and different varieties of brass on the market; from shiny, glimmering golds right down to rustic, earthy and dirty brass finishes.
As with copper, it can be applied against pinks and whites to create a luxe, somewhat feminine vibe or brought in against blacks, deep blues and browns for a more masculine feel. I love a metallic that does double duty like this, which is what makes brass decor so special.
Below I’ll show you 10 of my fave brass decor finds on the market right now. In true TLC style, there are budget examples right up to some more indulgent furniture purchases if you feel like splurging a little.
A home is always at its best when high end and bargain buys are intertwined, so grab yourself a little from column A and a little from column B and enjoy the sense of balance.
Oh, and if you’re seriously dying over the brass baby head above, it’s from overseas brand Mia Fleur, and I’ve just been told that they ship to Australia!

YES! I’ve been on this trend for four years, and it’s only getting stronger!
You are well ahead of the game than Louisa. I am so into brass at the moment too – especially when it’s a little dirty or rusty.
Thank you so much for the feature, Chris. The gold baby pot is pretty cool isn’t it! We do ship to Aus 🙂
