Discover the Best Types of Pillows for Your Sleep Style

We must leave the fun decorating stuff alone for a minute to talk about the best types of pillows. Because chances are, the ones you’re currently using don’t work for your sleep style.

What the hell is a sleep style, I hear you ask. I don’t actually hear you ask that (that’d be insane), but let’s pretend you’re wondering. Because truth be told, it’s worthy of some consideration. Given that you spend, I dunno, half your life lying in bed, it’s pretty important to have a pillow that’s working for you rather than against you while you sleep.

I’ve cracked out my detective coat to do some investigating for you today. Think of me as the modern day Jessica Fletcher of design, except minus the typewriter and old-school bicycle. I’m not only going to help you discover your sleep style, but I’m also going to show you which type of pillow is best for you. I’m really quite the giver, aren’t I?

For this post I’ve teamed up with my mates at Lorraine Lea, who have the best types of pillows to address your sleep style. Above is a video that explains it all if you’d rather watch it as opposed to reading. I won’t hold it against you!

Best Types of Pillows for Back Sleepers

I’m not even going to make any crude jokes about you being on your back! That would just be too crass. Legitimately though, if you do spend a lot of time in bed face up, there are two varieties considered the best types of pillows for you. Each one has its own distinct benefits, of course, so let me tell you a little about them below.

Memory Foam Pillow

The great thing about a memory foam pillow is that it’s soft and yet supportive at the same time. You get to have your cake and eat it too – how good is that!? You can lean on it all you like and it’ll revert back to its original shape in seconds. It’s been created to relive pressure points, so it’s a really good option if you suffer from neck, back or shoulder pain. The memory foam pillows from Lorraine Lea are only $139. Gimme gimme. Explore more here.

Latex Pillow

Say it with me: durable, breathable, supportive, healthy. They are the four main benefits of using a latex pillow, and they’re all pretty amazing when you think about it. The Talalay latex pillows from Lorraine Lea feature a higher flexibility and longer lifespan. So if you do love a sleep in on the weekends (or weekdays – no judgement) this one is worthy of your consideration. And a total steal at $119. Click here for more info.

Best Types of Pillows for Side Sleepers

Not that you were wondering, but I’m a side sleeper. How good is t curling up in the foetal position trying to fight your other half for the quilt in the middle of the night? Or is that just me!?

Anyway, the good news for you fellow side sleepers is that both the memory foam and latex pillows mentioned above are great for you also. So give them a look over and see what you think. There is however an additional pillow in the Lorraine Lea range designed specifically for you (and me), so lemme give you the lowdown.

Posture Sleep Pillow

The super soft foam core in this posture sleep pillow makes it a divine option for slide sleepers because it offers so much support. As side sleepers, the space between our ear and outer shoulder is often not cushioned correctly, which means we can wake up sore. The posture sleep’s built-in cushiness combats that issue though. It’s also wrapped in a premium quality polyester which makes it divine to the touch. Click here to read more about it.

Best Types of Pillows for Stomach Sleepers

You are one unique creature, stomach sleepers. I’ve tried many-a-time to sleep on my stomach but I inevitably wake up with one arm trapped underneath my body which has fallen to sleep. Sometimes both arms. And then I’m left with no way to sit up because my dead arms can’t lift me off the mattress.

Anyway, my complex sleeping issues aside, there are two best types of pillows for the way you slumber. And I reckon you’re gonna love ’em.

Greenfirst Bamboo Pillow

The Greenfirst bamboo pillow does some wonderful things for you while you sleep. First and foremost, it works to repel and kill dust mites. Given that you’re face down in it for so long, it’s a pretty good feature. It also sports a slim profile. It’s not a super-puffy pillow and this factor is really important. Slimline pillow = no neck pain when you wake up. The added bonus: they’re only $55 each. Click here to find out more.

Microfibre Pillow

I should mention right off the bat that this pillow comes in standard and king. So if you struggle to find a larger pillow for your bed, you won’t encounter that issue here. This soft and cushy pillow features a BioFresh treatment which creates an environment that’s anti-dustmite, antibacterial and antimicrobial. The even better news is that it’s fully washable and just $60 for the standard size. Click here for more on this pillow.

Best Types of Pillows for Back Pain

I am one of the lucky ones; I don’t tend to experience back pain at all. If you’re struggling with pains in your back then there’s one pillow in the Lorraine Lea range that’s calling your name.

Body Pillow

A body pillow is a great idea if you suffer from back pain. The reason is that is supports your hips and shoulders, keeping your spine in the correct position. The size and shape of the body pillow also means you’re less likely to toss and turn in the middle of the night, so your arms and legs stay aligned too. Definitely worth giving this one a go, especially considering it’s only $55. Click here to discover more.

Best Types of Pillows for Nursing Mums

As I’m sure you’d have gathered by now, I am not a nursing mother. But good Lord do I salute you. You’re both a miracle and a trooper; pregnancy is tough! What’s even tougher is when baby arrive and you can’t find a comfy spot to sit and nurse in. There are two pillows that’ll help with this issue, and you can pop them on your bed, armchair or sofa.

Tri Pillow

We all remember this one don’t we? They were huge a few decades ago and we often called them banana or boomerang pillows. Smart people actually never stopped using them; they’re a bit of a best-kept secret because they’re amazing at giving support while you nurse. They wrap right around your back and offer support on your arm when you’re holding bub. What could be better? Click here to see more.

Euro Pillow

Often thought of as a just-for-the-bed situation, a Euro pillow is also a winner when it comes to nursing in an armchair. It’s soft and plush, plus it can easily bend and move to suit your body shape. Why not try moving your existing one from your bed to your sofa? Or consider grabbing an additional Euro and leaving it in your nursing chair around-the-clock? Click here to see more.
