Three New Ways To Do It In The Bedroom This Season: Cosy, Calm or Colourful

This season, there are three distinctly different (and fresh) ways to decorate a bedroom with bedding. The question is, which way are you going to do it at home?

Bedding takes up such a huge chunk of visual real estate in a space, so I always advise readers and design clients to have a good think about the mood they want to create before they buy. How the room feels will be a direct result of how you’ve styled it, so the stakes are high!

When it comes to choosing bedding for your bedroom, you can opt to make the space cosy, calm or colourful. And I have some fresh pieces to showcase below to help you do it. Drop a comment and the end of the post and let me know which approach is your fave.

This post is produced in partnership with Lorraine Lea.

1. The Cosy Bedroom: Embracing Warmth and Texture

Who doesn’t love a cosy bedroom vibe? It’s a feeling you can inject into your space no matter the season and instantly it makes a space feel more inviting.

This look is all about creating a scene filled with touch-me textures. You want it to be easy on the eye but inviting to the hand. You know, the kinda bedding you want to roll around in and feel against your skin.

As we transition from winter to spring, this look allows you to increase or decrease your layers depending on the temperature. And the good news: just because you might be lightening the amount of bedding you have on your bedscape, it doesn’t mean you’re losing the cosiness!

That’s because the bedding set you see above is packed with tactile moments. Scroll on and I’ll tell you a bit more about her.

Bedding to Choose for a Cosy Bedroom Vibe

The stunner you see above is the Alice Quilt Cover Set from Lorraine Lea’s NOOK range. What makes her so special is not only the soft white colour palette, but the amount of textures and embellishments you see across the pieces.

The tufted pattern on top of this set is perhaps the best part, and it really makes the scene look and feel cosy. The medley of swirls and twirls that dance across the top of the quilt cover introduce movement and pattern but in a super subtle way.

The added fringe detail is also worth calling out, because it adds even more texture (hello oodles of cosiness). It runs all the way around the base and sides of the quilt cover, adding a sense of interest and even a little whimsy.

Shoutout to the amazing Arwen Lamps on the bedside tables above. They’re from Lorraine Lea too and add even more cosiness to the space.

2. The Calm Bedroom: A Less is More Approach

There’s something to be said about a minimal approach in a bedroom. I know, that coming from me is rich, because you’ve seen me create a brimming bed scene a number of times. But I also truly enjoy it when things are kept calm and restrained.

The bedroom above is a nice example of this approach at play. I like to think it gives the space a sense of understated sophistication. You know; you don’t need all the bells and whistles because the block colour of the bedding does the work for you. It commands attention.

This is a less-is-more way to do bed styling, for sure. But it works a treat, especially in keeping things soothing also moody at the same time. That’s thanks to the deep and delicious colour of this new bedding set, which I’ll tell you a bit more about below.

Bedding to Choose for a Calm Bedroom Vibe

The bedding above is the Espresso Elayna Quilt Cover Set. It’s a brand new drop from the team at Lorraine Lea and I’ve got my eyes all over it!

The rich colour story here is sure to make your boudoir feel rich and calm all at once; a moody retreat you can escape to. But it’s not all about looks, of course. The story gets even better when you experience the softness in this sumptuous set.

The fine linen material of the Espresso Elayna is quality at its best. Pre-washed and shrunk for your convenience, it gets better with every wash, allowing you to enjoy it for seasons to come.

I love bedding that stays with you for years, especially when it’s in a colour like this one that you can pair with any number of accompanying sheet sets and other accessories.

3. The Colourful Bedroom: A Little Razzle Dazzle

Our social media feeds get flooded with all-white spaces, which have their place, but how refreshing is it when you get stopped in your tracks by a colourful moment like the one above?

This is the ideal vibe for those of you who don’t feel words like ‘cosy’ or ‘calm’ reflect how you want your bedroom to look. It you’re not one to shy away from a bright tone or bold print, the colourful bedroom approach has your name written all over it.

There’s no denying that this scene feels more dramatic than the first two you saw further up, but it also feels rather grounded and mature. Yes it’s floral, yes it’s filled with colour, but there’s a wonderful luxury at play in this quilt cover set. Let me fill you in on why it’s so amazing below.

The bedding you see above is the fresh and fab Zelda Quilt Cover Set.

Grounded by a dark and moody backdrop, this invigorating design is punctuated with splashes of pink, lavender, deep green, oranges and sunny yellows, just to name a few!

Having these tones play across a darker foundation creates the perfect sense of balance. It’s a true celebration of colour and florals that allows you to pair it with so many accompanying sheet sets. The options are endless.

Keep it moody with black or charcoal sheets, go crisp and clean with a white set, or pull an accent colour from the quilt cover and inject that tone into your sheets. There’s really no way you can mess it up.

Shoutout to the Chester Lamps you see on the bedside tables in this bedroom. How luxe and lovely are they!?

I’d love to know which approach you find you’re the most drawn to when you decorate a bedroom with bedding at home.

Do you love to keep it warm and cosy (hello texture!), calm and minimal (simplicity at its best), or are you a wild colour lover who embraces drama?
