I recently gave you a peek inside my home, showing you how to zone an open plan living space using floor rugs (take a look at that post here).
What I didn’t take into account is that I have a demonic cat who makes it her mission to keep my life challenging. Since I laid down the rugs, the crazy critter has been lifting the four corners up constantly – and scratching at them – and it’s been driving me absolutely bonkers. I found myself having to place various objects (like the knitted pouffe above) over the corners of the rug, and as you can imagine it’s #notatallsexy.
Thankfully I found a solution to this problem that didn’t involve adopting the cat out to new owners – and it’s not one you’d expect.
It’s Velcro! Velcro Sticky Back for Fabrics, to be exact.

The Lowdown on Velcro Dots for Floors
There are a gazillion uses for these genius Sticky Back for Fabrics (I’ll list some below for you). For me though, this rug saving idea is a true revelation.
All you need to do it peel the sticky back off the Velcro, pop one on the base of your rug and one on the floor and you’re done. It forms a permanent bond! The rug is secured to the floor so the corners no longer lift. You don’t have a trip hazard either, which was an added concern for me at home. This may or may not have worsened after a glass of wine.
The Velcro comes in a variety of sizes. You can see two of the types I used here. The ovals you can dot along the edge of smaller rugs (or ones that haven’t been as attacked by your cat), while the larger rectangle Velcro can be cut into strips and used for larger rugs.
I can’t tell you how nice it is to no longer have random objects sitting on every corner of my rugs. They’re secured firmly to the ground now and look divine!
Other Uses for Velcro Dots at Home
Here are some other things you could use Velcro Sticky Back for Fabrics for:
– Repairing a hem, a gaping top or other wardrobe malfunction
– Making cute kids costumes
– Craft projects (like embellishing a tote bag or making a garland)
– Fashion projects like customising a white tee, adding lace to shorts, embellishing a cuff or collar
– Closures for phone, tablet, laptop cases, purses etc
– Sticking numbers on the backs of footy/netball jumpers or badges onto uniforms
– Pet accessories
Velcro Sticky Back for Fabrics are available nationally. Try Bunnings, Spotlight and independent haberdashery stores.

Ha ha, you’re such a crack up! But a really clever solution… I don’t have cats but I find with some rugs they can bubble up or move so I might just use this trick and see how I go. Thanks Chris
