These Hand-Crafted Clay Pendant Lights will Blow Your Mind

A homewares or furniture piece that’s handmade automatically gets bonus points in my books.

Oh how I wish I were skilled enough at making things that I could produce the pieces in today’s post. The best things I’ve created with my own bare hands were some homemade candles a year or so ago (though I was pretty impressed with the results, I must admit).

But the pendants I’m showing you today are in a world of their own. They’re big, bold and beautiful – and I reckon if you love home decor like I do, you too will be having kittens over how amazing they are. Read on for all the details and to watch a video of how they’re made.

Hand crafted in South Africa, these chandeliers would give any room in your humble abode a real sense of drama. I saw a similar one in Abigail Ahern’s bedroom when I showcased her home on the blog recently. It blew my mind then and it’s still blowing it now.

Each clay bead is hand rolled, kiln fired and dip dyed, then strung on a wrought iron frame. No two lights are the same either, which I think gives them a unique little story and history of their own (every chandelier is numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity).

The Klaylife brand is helping a small group of South African women to be self-sufficient to support their families and local communities through making these pieces, which gives the collection some feel-good factor as well.

Curious Grace sells the full Klaylife range of styles, colours and and sizes. Prices start from $1998, so this is a splurge piece – but what a statement they’d made in your dining or bedroom (or any other space you want to add some wow-factor to!).

See the video below for how these divine chandeliers are made.

  1. Wow. Glad I came across this post. Great story and video. The chandeliers look amazing as well, and would look great in a dinning room or even bedroom.

  2. Oh wow! If the chandeliers aren’t beautiful enough, watching the video would make anyone want to buy one. Gorgeous.
