The other week I attended the Denfair design trade show here in Melbourne and boy did it uncover a lot of upcoming trends.
There was oodles and oodles of divine design to take in, but the constant that stood out for me across the show was intriguing lighting.
Many brands were showcasing phenomenal new lights, lamps and pendants. And in this post I want to show you some of my favourites.
Strap yourself in for a few gasp-worthy moments because every look here is pretty captivating!
1. Ross Gardam’s Polar Lights
So Ross Gardam is the king of lighting. Imma go ahead and declare that right here and now. The two images above are of his absolutely outta-this-world Polar Desk Lamp.
There is a wall-mounted version of this beauty, but I’ve fallen head over heels for the one you see here.
The product utilises a unique, magnetic arm; it allows the disc to rotate around the body directing or shading light. It’s truly one of those beautiful, mind-boggling design moments you have to see in person to believe.
The lamp comes in four finishes and I want one in every colour.
2. Mark Douglass’ Coloured Glass Pendants
Last year on the blog we explored the coloured glass trend (see that post here), which is still going as strong now as it was in 2016.
I couldn’t have been happier to discover Mark Douglass at Denfair because the products on offer tap into this trend wonderfully.
Mark is the talented glass artist, sculptor and painter behind the Melbourne brand, and each piece in his collection is hand-blown.
Because of this bespoke approach to design, every single creation is entirely unique, which is a glorious selling point if you ask me.
3. The Furl Range from Marz Design
My third gasp-worthy lighting moment came courtesy of Marz Design.
Their Furl range of wall lights is inspired by origami and comes in two finishes; white powdercoat and brass. Custom finishes are available on request.
These striking fixtures are made from square, triangular and circular folded sheets of metal. As you can see, they’re rolled over to imitate the softness of paper, which is utterly genius.
They’re ambient, eye-catching and can be used indoors or out.
4. The Surgeon Light from Lost Profile Studio
Be still my beating heart. Actually, if there was an issue and you needed to perform emergency surgery, this is the light to assist in the procedure.
It holds all the drama of an operating theatre in its unique and iconic design, and is a made-to-order piece.
You can select to have it created as a pendant or wall sconce, and it’s made from brass, glass, acrylic and aluminium.
I need one of these in my life. I don’t know where, why or how – but I know I want one.
5. Anaesthetic’s Duomo Light Series
The brass trend is another one I’ve covered on the blog (see the best of it here) and I’m so glad it’s still going strong.
This range from Anaesthetic has a minimalist vibe and is inspired by traditional domed churches in Italy.
These eye-catching beauties are made to order and come in finishes of white, warm grey, matte black and aged brass.
I desperately want and need one of these on the wall in my dining room. Isn’t it everything!?
